Logging #cupoftheday with Tumblr Blog
My friends (@_SarahEsther and @Bo_Mann) recently began tweeting photos of their daily cup(s) of coffee and marking them with the hashtag #cupoftheday.
I have been drawn to these tweets... probably before I am a sucker for photos, coffee and Twitter.
After a few days of watching @_SarahEsther and @Bo_Mann) #cupoftheday tweets, I told them how much I love the concept! I also mentioned that I would be neat to log all of the photos on a blog.
I have been using the Tumblr blog platform for my personal blog for a few months. I also use the Tumblr iPhone app, which allows users to upload photos for their phones directly to their Tumblr blog. I told @Bo_Mann I would teach him how to do create a #cupoftheday blog (hence this blog post).
Here are the simple steps to create a Tumblr blog to log your hashtag tweets:
- Set up a Tumblr blog
- Download the Tumblr iPhone app
- Link your Twitter Account to your Tumblr blog (automatically send your Tumblr posts to Twitter, use the Services menu on your blog's Customize page)
- UPDATE: Make sure you go to Dashboard ---> Account ---> Customize your blog ---> Service and check the box "You can toggle this option when posting."
- Open the Tumblr iPhone app and select post and then photo
- Take a photo using your phone:
- The Tumblr iPhone app allows you to “take a new photo” or
- “Choose an existing photo” from your phone’s camera roll
- Type the hashtag (#cupoftheday) in the description.
- Make sure the hashtag is the second or third word of your post. Tumblr use the first few words of your blog post as the 140 character of your tweet.
- Do not put the hashtag as the first word of your tweet. I am not sure why, but Tumblr will take away the # if it is the first character in your post (I tried it).
- You can choose to publish the post automatically or schedule the post to be published later.
- As soon as the post is published, Tumblr will tweet your #cupoftheday post!
